As a composer and performer, Qasim Naqvi has weaved through the corridors of free improvisation, rock, electronica and contemporary classical music. A native of New York, Qasim’s origins lie in improvised music and the drums, with over 20 years of experience.  He currently performs with the Axis Trio, Dawn of Midi, Progressive Youth Club and The Recorder. He has composed works for The California Ear Unit, The Loos Ensemble of the Netherlands, The New Century Ensemble, The Tate Liverpool, Japanese Pop artist Piana, The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, The Time Based Arts Festival, Midnight Winds and Others.  Qasim has also produced works for choreographers in New York and Europe including Gabri Christa, Yael Caravan, Tai Jiminez, Tin Pen Chi and Adapt. His work for film has been shown on The Sundance Channel, HBO, NBC, PBS, The Tribeca Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Claremont Ferrant Short Film Festival, and other such venues. Qasim's work also extends into the realm of theater, including collaborations with DJ Rekha and the New Group in New York and award winning director Lars Jan. Qasim holds a Bachelors degree in Performance from Mannes College of Music and a Masters In Composition and Performance from the California Institute of the Arts. He studied composition with Wolfgang von Schweinitz, Michael Jon Fink, Anne Lebaron and Marc Sabat.  He has completed fellowships at Harvest Works, Art Omi, Academie Schloss Solitude and Steim. Qasim currently resides in New York City.
